Regional units

A Territorial Defence Region (TDR) is a structural unit of the Defence League with a defined area of responsibility. It prepares the state’s military defence capability within its area, contributes to enhancing and ensuring the security of the population of Estonia, and provides and organises military training for active members. Additionally, the TDR coordinates the activities of regional districts (malev’s) within its area to ensure internal security.

Cyber Defence Unit

The Cyber Defence Unit does not operate on the basis of Estonia’s administrative division, unlike other regional units (malevad) of the Defence League. It functions nationwide, organised into regional sub-units, and is directly subordinate to the Commander of the Defence League.
Many members of the Cyber Defence Unit, who live and work abroad in their daily lives, participate in the unit’s activities virtually through cyberspace. This provides an opportunity for volunteers who are not physically present in Estonia to contribute to the defence of the Estonian state.
